If there was one person attracting more attention than CEO Tim Cook himself at Apple's Annual Worldwide Developer Conference(WWDC) this year, it was a young Indian-origin girl from Australia. Why, you might wonder? Well, believe it or not, 9-year-old Anvitha Vijay is the youngest app developer at the event, who develops apps for children and now dreams of meeting the tech giant's CEO. Quite an achievement to be part of an event where the average attending age is well above 18 years, don't you think?

Intrigued? Well so were we, so we dug out some facts about this young genius:

  • She is a grade four student from Mount View Primary School in Melbourne, who began coding two years ago.
  • Her inspiration to develop an app came from her toddler sister, because she wanted to help her learn about animals.
  • Anvitha was just 7 years old when she decided to pursue app developing. Then she spent a year learning about coding on various platforms, and managed to learn the basics of programming. YouTube videos were her biggest source of information.
  • The app she has developed is called Smartkins Animals, an educational app which helps babies to learn and identify 100 different animal names and sounds they make.  What's more, the app is listed in Apple’s App store now and already has quite a few hundred downloads.

  • She first prototyped her app in Photoshop and then slowly delved into interface-design-app Sketch. Seeing the look of the app after its creation, Anvitha then began coding in Xcode, Apple's iOS development environment. After some trial and errors, the app was ready to use.
  • This year the iOs app earned her a scholarship for young coders to attend WWDC and Apple invited her to California.
  • She has created a handful of iOS apps including Smartkins. One of them educates children about the different types of colours.
  • Anvitha has created apps for both Apple iPhone and iPad.
