At 16, Malala Yousafzai didn't deserve a Nobel Peace Prize: Sri Sri Ravishankar

Sri Sri Ravishankar courted controversy saying Malala Yousafzai did not deserve the Nobel Peace Prize and that it was political move without looking into what the '16-year old' had done. Shankar said this when he was questioned by reporters if was working towards getting one himself. To which he claimed that he was approached for a Nobel but he declined it.

  • He questioned the importance of the prize and said that giving it to Malala was a political move by the federation.

  • All initiatives of peace by Malala were denied by Shankar. According to him, the federation did not check into what the “16-year-old” has done for propagating peace in the society.

  • Malala is a global ambassador of education for girls. In her native place Swat Valley, she was shot point blank in her head by Taliban forces who were against her passionate will to promote education in Pakistan. She has since moved to London

  • Malala became the youngest recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize in 2014 for promoting gender equality and peace. She shared her award with Kailash Satyarthi from India.

  • Shankar was in Latur for a Water Conservation Project where volunteers from his NGO and people of Latur got together for the project. Shankar had visited the place to administer the project.
