Asian Games Medalist Khajan Singh Acquitted In Rape Case

Khajan Singh, Arjuna Awardee and Asian Games medalist, has been acquitted by a Delhi Court in an alleged rape case. The development took place after the woman constable who filed the complaint later retracted from her statement.

Additional Sessions Judge Lokesh Kumar Sharma observed that the woman constable was neither raped nor threatened by the accused person at any point in time. The court also said that the complainant had filed the complaint in a fit of anger. Keeping this in mind, the Court said that the accused Singh could not be held guilty of committing rape upon her and so, the accused stands acquitted. Also, no solid evidence was found against the accused.

What was the complaint?

The woman filed a complaint in November - December 2020. In the complaint, she had accused Khajan and suspended coach Sarjeet Singh on the charges of running a sex scandal with CRPF. As per the complainant, the accused had asked her to extend sexual favour. She also alleged that he took her nude photo while she she was taking a bath. On the basis of that, he started blackmailing her and even threatened to make her nude photos viral. She said she was raped continuously between 2014 and 2017.

But the woman retracted her statement and said that she was not selected for the department's wrestling team following a disciplinary issue against her. The whole things irked her and she filed a complaint in a fit of anger, she said.

Who is Khajan Singh?

Khajan Singh was born on 6 May 1962. He bagged a silver medal at the 1986 Asian Games in Seoul. He is also the recipient of Arjuna Award by Government of India in 1984.
