Daughter Of Woman Denied Entry To Restaurant For Wearing Saree Gives Her Account

Anita Chaudhary daughter: A woman was allegedly denied entry to a restaurant in South Delhi area because she was wearing a saree. The woman posted the video of the incident on social media and netizens expressed outrage over the issue. Since then many conflicting narratives of the incident have come up.

The restaurant on its official social media posted an official statement in which they claimed that the woman was told that she will not be allowed to enter because she was wearing saree because she was misbehaving with the staffer of the restaurant.

They also posted a video in which they claimed that the woman slapped the manager. The woman and her daughter have denied the allegation. In tweet emerged on Thursday which was apparently posted by the woman, Anita Chaudhary's daughter. She said that her mother did push the manager but did not slap her. She also claimed that the staffer humiliated her parents.

In a lengthy account of the night, the woman said that she had made reservation at the Aquila restaurant for her birthday with her parents. The family had to reach there between 5 pm to 6 pm but they ended up being late. When they reached the restaurant, the staffer allegedly "looked up and down" at the woman's parents. The woman said that she and her parents can wait for sometime until they get a table. She was then taken to "a corner" and was told that they will not be allowed to have dinner because her mother was wearing a saree.

The restaurant in their statement also wrote that the woman was underage to dine at the place. Countering the statement, the daughter said that the restaurant has served alcohol to many 17-year-old people who are younger than her. Read the restaurant's statement here.

The National Commission for Women (NCW) has taken cognisance of the incident and has asked for a probe in the matter. The Chief of the Commission wrote to Delhi Police commissioner to carry out investigations. "NCW has also asked the restaurant’s Marketing & PR Director to appear before the Commission for a hearing” the tweet mentioned.
