Mohammed Zubair Twitter: Child rights body National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) approached the Delhi High Court seeking the removal of a tweet shared by fact-checking website AltNews claiming it was in violation of the law, reports said Friday. It said Twitter refused to pull down Zubair's tweet in question from last year.

A tweet shared by Zubair on August 6, 2020, during a heated exchange with a man, contained the photo of the latter's daughter with her face blurred out. Zubair asked if the girl knew about the man's "part time job of abusing people on social media," according to Scroll

Pursuant to a complaint by NCPCR chairperson Priyank Kanoongo, Delhi Police registered a case against Zubair the same year. An affidavit by NCPCR before the court claims that Twitter said the girl's photo was pixelated and post-review, they were not taking down Zubair's tweet.

Mohammed Zubair Twitter Post Under Scrutiny By Child Rights Body

1. Massive outrage ensued on Twitter last year August when Zubair, in response to a man's tweet, reshared his profile photo also featuring his minor daughter. Zubair blurred her face.

2. NCPCR sought action, seeking removal of the tweet last year. The HC restrained Delhi Police from taking coercive action against Zubair, Indian Express reports. Two FIRs were filed against Zubair under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) in Delhi and Raipur.

3. The child rights body has now moved the HC, claiming in their affidavit they asked Twitter and Delhi Police for an update in the case this year in July.

4. Police said they approached a Delhi court alleging Twitter did not present the information sought, with particular mention of Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey and former India operations head Manish Maheshwari.

5. AltNews in a statement last year said the incident was an "attempt... to hound" Zubair. The organisation is co-founded by Pratik Sinha.
