The Mumbai Police has filed an FIR against actor Ajaz Khan, producer Rajkumar Pandey, and others on May 2, for alleged obscene content on the reality web series House Arrest, which was streaming on the Ullu app. Earlier this week, controversy erupted over a sequence on the show where Khan, the show's host, was seen challenging contestants to simulate sex positions on camera. According to an official of Amboli Police Station, this FIR was registered following a complaint lodged by Gautam Ravriya, a Bajrang Dal activist.
What is the House Arrest row?
Video clips of House Arrest started circulating on social media, showing Ajaz Khan making actors imitate sexual acts on camera. He is also alleged to have asked participants intimate questions. The complainant claimed that the reality show contained “obscene language” and acts that outraged the modesty of women.
“The complainant mentioned that he received several complaints about the vulgar content of the show and that many people sent personal messages to him to complain about it,” an unnamed police official told Hindustan Times. On May 1, Maharashtra MLC Chitra Wagh demanded an immediate ban on House Arrest.
The host and producer of House Arrest have been charged under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the Information Technology Act and the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act. The National Commission for Women (NCW) summoned Khan and Ullu App CEO Vibhu Agarwal on May 2.
Several political leaders also addressed the issue, accusing the House Arrest host and makers of 'propagating obscenity and vulgarity'. The Ullu app reportedly took down House Arrest from its platform. However, they have not released any official statement. Neither the show nor Khan has commented on the controversy.
