Three Minor Dalit Sisters Attacked With "Acid" In Uttar Pradesh: Report

The two younger sisters suffered minor burns while the eldest one sustained injuries on her face.

Three minor Dalit sisters were attacked with an unknown chemical in the Gonda district of Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday, October 13. The incident took place as they were sleeping in their house in Parsapur area of Gonda district. The police have launched a forensic examination to identify the chemical. They have not arrested any suspects as of now.

‘Acid’ Attack On Three Minor Dalit Girls In Gonda

According to The Hindu, the girls, aged eight, twelve, and seventeen years, were sleeping on their house’s first floor at the time of the attack. Their father, who was sleeping on the ground floor, has no clue who the attacker(s) could be. However,  he told police officials that a ladder may have been used to climb up to the first floor. The girls’ family has claimed that they were attacked with "acid".

Their father told local news channels, “When my daughters screamed, I immediately opened the door and grabbed one of them. When my vest burned, I got to know that somebody had thrown acid at them.” The two younger sisters suffered minor burns while the eldest one sustained injuries on her face. The three girls are currently out of danger and undergoing treatment in a district hospital.

Police Investigations Are On

The cops have registered an FIR in the case and begun their investigation. Special teams have been formed to track down the culprit(s). Shailesh Kumar Pandey, SP Gonda, said that the family has no known animosity with anyone to motivate such an attack.

Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also tweeted about the case. Sharing a video interview of the girls’ father, she wrote, “This man’s three daughters aged 17, 10 & 8 were asleep in their home when someone entered and threw acid on them. The UP government’s politically motivated narrative of justifying and protecting perpetrators of crimes against women has only emboldened criminals across the state.”

On September 14, 2020, four upper-caste men allegedly gangraped and assaulted a 19-year-old Dalit woman in Hathras. Consequently, the woman succumbed to her injuries on September 29 at a Delhi hospital. The incident, among many others, sparked nationwide outrage and protests over the unfavourable state of women’s security in Uttar Pradesh.
