AAP has big promises but will people buy their story this time? One of their key promises is about women safety in Delhi, an issue that promises to resonate with the 7,800,000 women in the capital city. Delhi is said to have a higher crime rate than any other city in the country and even with both Congress and the BJP’s efforts, there has been no change in the rates of crimes against women.

The party’s policy maker and manifesto writer Atishi Marlena believes that if eateries were allowed to open till late in the night, the presence of crowd would help the women who are at a risk of being attacked because they are alone. To ensure that women feel safe while taking public transport, AAP will also deploy guards or marshals in the buses.

In an interview with The Hindu, Marlena said, “We do understand that merely deploying security guards in crowded buses may not be the best solution, but we can make arrangements for marshals to board and de-board the buses at regular intervals and even carry out surprise checks. This will instill a belief in women passengers and those harassing them that such incidents will be dealt with instantly.”

To further emphasize on their commitment and dedication towards the cause, the party has announced 26th November, 2014, as ‘Women’s Empowerment Day.’ this is when the next dialog regarding the necessary steps will be taken.

AAP, this year has many female candidates and a woman as their policy maker (which is rather important for a party that claims to always deliver on their promises). Let us now hope that this time the party’s efforts give results and give the country and the capital’s girls and women some security.
