Aaliyah Kashyap, in an Instagram post shared Friday, reacted to the online hate and rape threats she received for a lingerie photoshoot. The statement, which carries derogatory remarks social media users threw at her, mentions, “Nothing I do or post is an invitation for sexual assault.” Kashyap has also written about having been sexually assaulted as a minor.
The 20-year-old is the daughter of filmmaker Anurag Kashyap and editor Aarti Bajaj and is currently studying in the United States. In a YouTube video recently uploaded to her channel, she spoke about how she was trolled for uploading lingerie photos, was called a “prostitute” and that she was “crying constantly” due to the backlash.
“So social media negativity is something I have come to terms with. Like, I am a very sensitive person and even the smallest bit of hate does affect me, but I don’t know. I’m sensitive, I cry almost every day about the dumbest s**t,” she had said.
Her latest Instagram post, picking up on that thread, further outlines, “Ever since I posted a photo of me in lingerie, I have been getting the most vile, degrading and disgusting comments. I have never felt more frightened than I have in the past few weeks.”

Aaliyah Kashyap Speaks Up On Rape Culture
Mentioning she was “sexually assaulted as a minor by a middle aged man,” Kashyap writes, “We seem to be a country that will hold candle marches for a woman after she’s been sexually assaulted but won’t protect a woman while she’s alive.”
Calling out rape culture, she further adds, “If you truly disagree with what I post, then you are free to unfollow me. Nothing I do or post is an invitation for sexual assault. Nothing any woman does, ever can be. So instead of policing women how to dress or how to act, we should unteach men the predatory behaviour that has been so normalised in our society.”
