India is bestowed with many dynamic women brimming with limitless potential. One such enterprising personality is Poorna Malavath. Her name got scripted in the golden pages of world history when in 2014 she became the youngest girl to conquer Mt. Everest. She was just 13 years and 11 months at the time. Directed by Rahul Bose, her inspiring tale has been documented in the form of a biopic. The movie Poorna: Courage has no Limits is scheduled to release in March end.

1. Poorna was born on 10 June, 2000, in Nizamabad district of Telangana. She belongs to a tribal family and her parents work as farm labourers.

2. She joined the Telangana Social Welfare Residential Educational Institutions Society for her education. Secretary of the society, Dr R S Praveen Kumar, spotted her extraordinary talent and recommended her name for Operation Everest.

3. She underwent an intensive training for 8 months. The initial eight months was mainly jogging, yoga and meditation followed by five months of rigorous ice and snow training. Before taking on the challenge of climbing Everest, she went on a trek to Mount Renock in Sikkim to test her stamina.

4. Before setting off for Everest, Poorna and her co-climber were informed about an avalanche that had struck on the Nepalese side of the mountain and claimed a few lives. That, however, didn't deter them from continuing their journey.

5. The extreme weather conditions had made it difficult for them to eat, they survived mainly on dry fruits, chocolates and liquids. They were carrying the National Flag, the Telangana Flag and their education society flag which they wanted to hoist upon reaching the summit.

6. According to Poorna, the most difficult part of her journey was when she was returning. She came across six bodies and this remain the most scary part of the expedition.

7. After the successful completion of the Everest expedition, she climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro in August, 2016. She aspires to become an IPS officer.

8. In an interview with The Hindu, she said,

"We get very few opportunities, so when you do get an opportunity, you must utilize it. A lot of people will keep telling you that ‘you can’t do this, you can’t do that’ but we can do everything because we are born winners and anything is possible."

Poorna's inspiring journey of conquering Mount Everest is the quintessential example of the infinite potential Indian girls have. Her indomitable spirit coupled with a stellar display of physical and mental strength is worth imbibing.
