The mother of the 18-month-old found her with blood around her private parts and on her dress on Monday afternoon (Nov 13). Resident of an urban village in south Delhi, she quickly called the cops who came and caught the accused from the same house.
The culprit was the father’s friend who was tasked with babysitting the child during the afternoon as both her parents were away at work. And since he had a night duty, he stayed back to be with the child. This is when ill-will prevailed and he allegedly raped the 18-month-old.
When the crime came to everybody’s notice, the locals from the area beat up the 21-year-old suspect, said Chinmoy Biswal, additional DCP (south), HT reported.
“The accused has said he did not run away after the crime as he regretted his mistake. We don’t know if he is saying the truth,” said Biswal.
The parents admitted the girl at Safdarjung hospital on the same day and the hospital discharged her on Wednesday.

“She was admitted with cuts and bruises and blood clot. However, she did not have any major injury and did not need any surgical intervention,” said Dr Rajendra Sharma, medical superintendent of Safdarjung hospital.
While the baby's father runs a small business where he gets work for labourers and workers and charges commission, the mother is a house help. The accused lived with them as he had come from the father’s village. The father had also got him a job as a night guard at a cafe in Hauz Khas.
“He belongs to my village and had been staying at my house for the last two months. Since his duty was at nights, he would take care of my children when my wife and I would be away at work in the daytime,” the father said.
“When my wife returned home in the evening and checked our daughter, she found blood on her clothes. She immediately checked her to find she had been sexually assaulted.”
The couple has two more children—a 10-year-old son and a six-year-old daughter.
The police said that the crime happened in the afternoon when the girl was alone with the accused. The parents were at work and the other children had gone to school.
“When my wife returned home in the evening and checked our daughter, she found blood on her clothes. She immediately checked her to find she had been sexually assaulted,” said the father.
The wife also alleged that the crime involved one more friend of the suspect but the police haven't found evidence to corroborate it. “We continue to probe the parents’ allegations earnestly and will act if anyone else was involved,” said Dependra Pathak, Delhi Police spokesperson.
DCW chief Swati Malliwal also visited the child at the hospital on Tuesday afternoon. She then put up a protest outside Home Minister Rajnath Singh’s residence. The police detained her and took her to the police station. However, released her soon after.
She posted a Tweet afterwards demanding death sentence to rapists within six months in cases of rape of minors.
