Weddings in 2025 are leaning into nostalgia as never before, with couples integrating trendy modern celebrations with classic homegrown traditions. This blend of modernity and sentiment is redefining the Indian wedding landscape, where personalisation and emotional storytelling take centre stage.
From handcrafted stationery and family heirlooms worn as jewellery, to live folk music performers and dessert table displays filled with regional sweets, the old-world charm is in full bloom. Even décor is beginning to take a personal touch by incorporating local flowers and artisanal or sustainable elements.
Although the most obvious trends are visual, there is a significant element of sentimentality nodding toward our roots, memories, and the warmth of homegrown celebrations.
Family Recipe Pop-Ups
In 2025, weddings are embracing authentic, homegrown experiences that highlight family and tradition. The use of family recipe pops as a themed food station is one instance of the popular trend to reflect on family recipes, the more nostalgic and beloved the better.
Family name dishes like Amma's Masala Dosa or Dada's Chicken Curry are commonplace, and while the food reflects on heritage and past memories, guests experience an additional layer of warmth and storytelling when enjoying the dish.
Couples are also looking past traditional catering for wedding receptions and looking at building their own menus that embody their heritage, passion, or cherished family moments to create conversation among guests. Additionally, this trend is a blend of culinary creativity and sensitivity, making weddings personal and unique.
Sometimes, the entire theme of the culinary offering of an event can span the journey of the relationship being celebrated. For example, the restaurant menu where the couple first met, the couple’s favourite restaurant, the couple’s first trip within the country/ outside the country, their favourite cuisine, their favourite chef, etc. and a whole culinary storyboard emerges from it.
Trunk of Memories Décor
Weddings celebrate nostalgia through rustic and meaningful décor, including the trend of the "Trunk of Memories." Vintage sandooks and family chests are creatively repurposed as an element of seating, gift hamper or statement décor to add a personalised touch of heritage to the celebrations.
Couples are showcasing family heirlooms, family videos, and other curated memories that invite guests to interact with the past. Whether a rustic outdoor wedding or an elegant indoor affair, timeless trunks add tradition to style and make each corner personal, easy, warm, and rich in storytelling.
Handwritten Guest Notes Instead of Hashtags
One notable trend making a comeback is handwritten notes from guests instead of hashtags. Guests leave loving well-wishes and blessings in curated notebooks, scrolls, or guestbooks that can be kept as a memory for a lifetime. From backyards and private gardens to ballrooms, guests love it on an international scale, as it allows couples to capture real emotions and memories in a way social media cannot - they embody celebrations that live on forever.
Childhood Snack Carts
Nostalgia is at the forefront of weddings in 2025, led by childhood snack carts. Couples are bringing the cheerful playfulness of desi celebrations back, with stalls serving up gola, papad, imli, masala peanuts, varyali, singhada, karvanda, raw mango with chaat masala, and other favourite snacks.
These colourful, participatory corners allow guests to experience the simple joys of childhood while infusing fun and vibrancy into the festivities. This goes beyond food; it creates experience, mixing nostalgia with joy, and lends personalisation, warmth, and cotton-candy charm to the celebration.
Village-Style Seating
Drawing from childhood recollections, this look is one that’s characterised by low wooden charpoys, jute-floor cushions, and rustic décor laid out to encourage guests to casually sit amongst the celebration and soak it all in. Couples are coupling this look with fun nods to childhood, like stalls with chikki and golgappa, clay pots of colours, and handwoven mats to create a delightful, warm, immersive, and nostalgia-filled celebration.
By blending modern trends with nostalgic, homegrown touches, these ceremonies celebrate not only love but also heritage, memories, and the simple joys that make every moment deeply personal and unforgettable.
