Chhavi Mittal has been around in the entertainment industry for some solid years now. From starting her acting stint on a popular daily soap on television to creating her own digital platform called SIT. Mittal's journey, however, hasn't been a bed of roses.
Her success today is a result of her sheer hard work and her ability to understand what works in the creative industry and what doesn't. Mittal, who is also a cancer survivor, believes that the disease cannot define her and that her fighting it will always be a testament to her willpower, her family's support, and life itself.
In this conversation with SheThePeople, Chhavi Mittal talks about her career in entertainment, her cancer diagnosis, the fight she put up against the disease, and why having the right people around can work miracles.

“I was a child prodigy…that’s what people said. My parents wanted me to become a playback singer and I worked really hard from an early age of 5 and became a performing singer at 7. Singing was the road to happiness and I was on a road to shape my future into it. My singing got me acting offers. The seeds of optimism germinated pretty young into me as Mom had taught, ‘Always say yes to everything and never let an opportunity go past you.’
As I grew older, I sunk into acting and played many roles, some even larger than life. Soon after our daughter Areeza, me and my husband Mohit wanted to spend more time with her. Since we were in the same industry and had really hectic schedules; we thought of taking a work break.
Mohit fondly used to watch youtube content so, the idea came in from there and we tried our luck with our first video and got humongous love from fans. A lot of people judged us! Gossip spread that due to lack of work, we had entered the online space. People said this step would lead us on a downward trajectory. We felt accomplished. Until one day, while I was on my routine walk, I got a call from my doctor. He had asked me to come down to his clinic. I had no clue that my life was about to change….completely! God has his own ways of showing up and sometimes it gets too scary.
I was feeling a lump in my breasts for quite some time so I opted for a checkup. I wasn’t prepared for more. I bluntly asked, ‘Doc, do I have cancer?’ That Yes, scared the shit out of me. I froze. Back home, I clutched Mohit and told him about my condition in a trembling voice. He was in tears. We both were taken aback and had no clue about what next. Gradually, I gathered all the information I could about my condition which helped me keep calm. I kept complete faith. It wasn’t easy then, but my family helped me battle it all.
A funny thing happened a few hours before the surgery, Mohit was nervous, so he left the room with an excuse. I grabbed my phone and danced to this new trend. Mohit was back & I thought he would be super mad but instead, he danced along.
