Female characters on Indian television are predominantly assigned selfless loving roles, such as that of a mother, wife, or sister. Their sole purpose is to ensure the happiness and well-being of their loved ones, often neglecting their own needs in the process.

Breaking this stereotype is Pushpa from Sony SAB’s popular show Pushpa Impossible, magnificently brought to life by the versatile Karuna Pandey.

The show has undeniably transformed the portrayal of women in society, presenting a character who confronts hurdles, defies traditional norms, and fearlessly embraces life. What sets Pushpa apart is her unwavering optimism and the enthusiasm with which she lives her life, unapologetically. The show encourages women to prioritize themselves equally, giving them an opportunity to redirect their focus towards their own pursuits; and in turn, making them and their families happier in the process.

Pushpa, a middle-aged single mother, is smart, witty, sharp, and has a unique take on life and relationships. Age is merely a number for her when it comes to chasing her dreams. With her unique perspective, she embraces the notion that there is no “correct” way to live life – which itself opens a world of endless possibilities for her. Being a progressive thinker allows her to explore, grow and create an authentic life for herself, on her own terms.

Speaking about her relationship with her children, Pushpa is seen instilling great values in her children Chirag, Ashwin, and Rashi. As a single mother of three children, Pushpa stands out for her remarkable ability to understand her children, a quality that many parents in India struggle with. She not only supports her son Chirag in his pursuit of food delivery but also ensures that she is there for her daughter-in-law Dipti as she faces an emotional upheaval in her marriage with Ashwin.  This demonstrates how Pushpa emphasizes open communication, respect, and mutual understanding with her children. The dynamics between Pushpa and her children cultivate a profound sense of trust and emotional bond.

In the show, viewers witness Pushpa's journey of returning to school at the age of 42, driven by her unfulfilled educational aspirations from her youth. She will soon be seen venturing into the business of crafting Patola sarees, a traditional art form passed on from generation to generation. Pushpa’s father taught her the art form and she now wishes to carry forward the legacy by starting her own business. It is heartening to witness a show that portrays a woman who, against all odds, prioritizes the things that are important to her and makes time for them.

While modern-age women strive to create an identity for themselves beyond the conventional roles of motherhood, daughterhood, sisterhood, or wifehood, "Pushpa Impossible" is challenging these stereotypes with its unconventional narrative. The show encourages women to place their own needs and desires first, as only by achieving personal happiness and satisfaction can they effectively contribute to the contentment of their families.

As the saying goes, when one's cup is full, they have more to offer to relationships, careers, and those around them. Aligned with the idea of ‘Aapke parivaar ki Khushi, AAPKE Khush hone mein hai’, Pushpa motivates women to pursue dreams that make them happy and content, since a woman's happiness permeates into everything she does. Pushpa herself beautifully exemplifies the idea that the happiness of one’s family is intertwined with their own happiness because when women fulfil their dreams, they radiate such joy and passion that others can feel.

Pushpa's extraordinary journey is inspiring and stands as evidence of her indomitable spirit, unwavering determination, and resilience in the face of adversity as seen in Pushpa Impossible, Monday to Saturday, 9.30 PM only on Sony SAB.
