The life inside of an all-girls college is a subject matter of fascination for all those who have never stepped inside one, including women who have studied in co-ed colleges. Some people think girls college is all about fashion, gossip and makeup while others thinkit to be a hub of catfights! While all of these things are fun to imagine, in reality, many of these are not true. And honestly, girls who study at these colleges are actually tired of answering all the questions about cat fights that rarely happened. So here are some myths about studying in a girls college that need to be done with:
- The most often heard myth about girls college is that the students of such colleges are desperate to have a man in their lives.
- Most of the students work really hard to get into top girls colleges, so studies should be what must define them and not fashion quotient.
- Another myth is that an all-girls college is a place full of drama. People think there are a lot of catfights.
- Some people think that you will end up a lesbian at an all-girls college, which is not correct.
A lot of us choose these institutions for their overall ranking and quality of education and because they are “safer” than co-eds.
Girls college students are desperate for boys
The most often heard myth about girls college is that the students here are desperate to have a man in their lives. Let me clear this, we are not. True, some girls get starry-eyed when they see a boy in their college, but others don’t. They just want to study and focus on their future. Many of the students are glad to have not boys around, in fact.
Parents forced us join an all-girls college
People assume that we have joined an all-girls college because our parents think it is safer than a co-ed college. While some parents do think in such a manner, this is hardly the basis for admission. Many top institutes are all-girls colleges in our country, in Delhi we have: Gargi College, Lady Shri Ram College, Indraprastha College For Women and many others. Most of the students work really hard to get into these colleges. A lot of us choose these institutions for their overall ranking and quality of education.
Girls do dress up, but mostly in comfortable clothes. At all-girls colleges, girls dress up in everything from pajamas to cute dresses.
There is a lot of drama in girls colleges
Another myth is that an all-girls college is a place full of drama. People think a lot of catfights and gossips sessions take place at such colleges. I am a second-year student at an all-girls college and I am yet to see a catfight. In fact, an all-girls college celebrates womanhood and female friendships.
Girls colleges are all about fashion
Girls do dress up, but mostly in comfortable clothes. At all-girls colleges, girls dress up in everything from pajamas to cute dresses. So no, it is not about fashion, it is about the mood and personal style and that varies for every student. You will see a girl in her jammies on a lazy day and then in her best outfit on a day she is feeling up to the task.
A girls college student is either a lesbian or will end up a being one
Another myth is that you will end up “becoming” a lesbian at an all-girls college. This is the biggest lie you can be told. Girls actually understand girls in a better way after joining an all-girls college. They also start respecting other women more. But being surrounded by women doesn’t mean that your sexual orientation will change. It is misconceptions like these that keep us from understanding what sexuality actually is.
