Body Hair, hairy chest

24-year-old Esther Calixte-Bea embraces her hairy chest and body hair after years of bullying, shaving and waxing. The artist from Montreal, Canada told Caters News that, “It has taken me most of my life for me to accept my body and embrace who I am.” While Calixte-Bea may have more body hair than most women, it is completely natural. Her ancestors are from the Wè Tribe of Ivory Coast, Africa.

“The women in my great-grandmother’s time were very hairy, and it was seen as beautiful. There is no medical explanation behind my hair,” she says.

Calixte-Bea felt insecured, depressed and suicidal for years. By May 2020, she ditched her razor and started embracing her body hair and natural look. “It is the best thing I have ever done, as I feel sexier and comfortable in my own skin,” she said.

While it wasn’t an easy transition, she received tremendous support online. She has normalised facial and body hair for women. She stated that she “received thousands of messages from women all over the globe who thought they were alone.” In fact, the artist's paintings often feature women that look like her and have body hair. Another step towards normalising female body hair.

“I refuse to victimize myself because of it. I have decided what beautiful is for me.”
