For all of these concerns, a vegetarian diet has specific superfoods that are nutrient-dense. One such superfood is Paneer or Cottage Cheese, which is highly versatile, flavourful, and a vegetarian's dream.

On its own, paneer has a moderate flavour and texture. The best thing about the food item is that it can transform into anything you wish. It works well as a meat substitute in almost any recipe, not just in terms of taste but also in terms of nutrients. One such recipe could be Paneer Tikka.

What is Paneer Tikka?

Paneer Tikka is a traditional Indian dish that has gained new popularity around the world. India has long been recognised for its exotic spices, and Paneer Tikka is no exception.

How is Paneer Tikka healthy?

Because Paneer is high in protein, it keeps you fuller for longer, and the marinade with Curd (which is high in zinc and prevents false hunger pains) makes it a fully healthy snack.  Along with curd, paneer increases its fibre and protein intake.

Cooking Time: 10 - 15 minutes

Serving for 2 People

Ingredients for Paneer Tikka:

  1. Hung curd - 1/2 Cup
  2. 1 cup Paneer - 1 Cup / 15- 20 Cubes
  3. Lemon Juice- 1 tsp
  4. Small capsicum - 1
  5. Small tomato - 1
  6.  Large onion - 3
  7.  Red chilli powder -3 tsp 3 tsp
  8. Coriander powder(Dhaniya)- 2 tsp
  9. Garm Masala - 1 tsp
  10. Amchur (dry mango powder)- 1 tsp
  11. Kasthuri Methi (Dry fenugreek leaves) optional - 1 tsp
  12. Ginger-garlic paste, salt as per taste
  13. Desi ghee (always better than refined oil)
  14. A pinch of Haldi (use fresh grated one for extra immunity boost)

Recipe:

Step 1: Gather all of the necessary components. Under the tap, wash the vegetables. Allow them to air dry. Remove the onion skins gently and cut them into large bits. Capsicum and tomato should also be sliced into large chunks so that they may be placed on grill sticks. If you don't have any grill sticks, simply place the marinated paneer and vegetables on a baking sheet.

Step 2: Add hanging curd to a large mixing bowl. Toss in all of the spices. Add the paste of ginger and garlic.  Also add Lemon juice, desi ghee and salt to taste. Mix thoroughly, and if necessary, add additional hanging curd. If the mixture appears to be too thick, add a little water.

Step 3: In the aforesaid mixture, add the Paneer cubes and the vegetables.

Step 4: Mix thoroughly and coat everything evenly but gently to avoid breaking the pieces. It is preferable to use your hands. Refrigerate it for 2 hours after covering it.

Step 6: Allow 15 minutes before baking. Step 5: You can leave it at room temperature if the weather is cold. Using the grill sticks, arrange the vegetables and paneer cubes in the preferred order. I've also used a baking tray. As a result, prepare a baking sheet. Place the vegetables on top after coating it with a little oil or ghee. Preheat oven to 200°F and bake for 10-15 minutes in OTG.

Step 8: They'll appear to be well-done. You can bake for a few minutes longer if you want a Tandoori flavour, but not more than 20 minutes otherwise the Paneer will turn chewy!
