The 12 episode long series set in London tells the story of a celebrated novelist who gets out with her friends to get a break from her hectic schedule. However, the night out turns problematic when she is raped and could not recall anything about it the next morning. Coel’s character who is a writer delves deep into her trauma and takes the viewers into the mind of a survivor of rape. Many women who watched the show related to details, gestures and mannerisms shown by Coel. The writer, Coel, is herself a survivor of sexual assault and she took two years to write the show. Reportedly, she did not work on anything else during that time.

Unbelievable

This 2019 Netflix mini series is about the story of a teen girl who reports a rape case but is charged of creating a false rape story. With the help of two detectives, she tries to prove the truth behind the incidents. The series is based on Washington and Colorado serial rape cases that took place between 2008 and 2011 and starred Toni Collette, Merritt Wever and Kaitlyn Dever.

Seven Seconds

This movie is set in the backdrop of a hit and run case where a Black cyclist became a victim of a white driver’s fault who ran away from the crime scene. The show features the aftermath of the incident with racial tension rising and an attempted cover up by the police department. In such times, Black prosecutor KJ Harper does all she could to bring the truth in light.

The Mare Of Easttown

This crime drama limited series starring Kate Winslet in lead role consisted of seven episodes that depicted the story of a detective who in investigating the murder of a teenage mother in Philadelphia while she deals with her own struggles of proving her worth, the suicide of her son, custody battle for her grandson and her own divorce.

Mrs. Fletcher

Released on Disney Plus Hotstar, this limited comedy series stars Kathryn Hahn, Jackson White, Jen Richards and Casey Wilson in pivotal roles. This show features the story of a divorcee and mother Eve Fletcher who starts her new life after her son goes to the college. This 2020 gothic drama series on Netflix featured nine episodes led by Victoria Pedretti in the role of an au pair whose job is to look after the niece and nephew of her hirer while living at the Bly estate. Things get complicated as she starts seeing ghosting apparition at the manor. The show stars Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Amelia Eve, T’Nia Miller and Rahul Kohli in pivotal roles.
