In a recent incident, Will Smith slapped comedian Chris Rock for joking around his wife Jada Pinkett Smith's medical condition at the 94th Academy Awards ceremony. - The couple first met at the sets of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air where Jada had come to audition for the role of Smith's girlfriend. She was denied the role for being too short for him. The roles was then given to Nia Long.
- Even though the two did not act together as a couple on-screen, they started a real-life friendship. At that time, Smith was married to Sheree Zampino. The former couple got divorced in 1995. However, according to reports, the actor started dating Pinkett before his divorce while he was separated from his former wife.
- Will Smith and Jada Pinkett got married in 1997 on the day of New Year's Eve in a private ceremony at the Cloisters Mansion while the latter was pregnant with their son Jaden. They welcomed Jaden in 1998, and later in 2000, their daughter Willow was born.
- While there were reports speculating an open marriage and divorce, the couple emerged stronger smashing such rumours. Smith clarified the 2015 divorce rumours saying, "So, in the interest of redundant, repetitious, over and over-again-ness… Jada and I are… NOT GETTING A DIVORCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
