Queen of Tears has broken records since it premiered on Netflix and has left fans from around the world gushing over Kim Ji-won and Kim Soo-hyun's pairing and exotic chemistry. While the show is a lengthy series which eclipses how a couple is trapped in a loveless marriage, a series of events and many plot twists contribute to reigniting the flame of their romance.
From Background Vocalist to a Phenomenal Actor
Kim Ji-won is a famous South Korean actor who has gained immense popularity from K-dramas like 'The Heirs' and 'The Descendants of the Sun' which premiered in 2013 and 2016 respectively. It wasn't until 2017 that she took on the role of a leading lady in 'Fight for My Way' and later on in 'Arthdal Chronicles', 'Lovestruck in the City' and 'Liberation Notes' in 2022. Kim Ji-won has been a household name for many K-drama lovers and she has made a magnetic presence in people's hearts since 2010 when she made her debut doing commercials on television.
Long before she started her career in acting she was a trained singer and dancer who, in 2007 worked as a keyboardist and vocalist for the singer-songwriter Younha. She was later on recruited by a director due to her exceptional acting skills. Kim Ji-won is also an introverted person who does not stay very active on social media despite her staggering 11 million followers on Instagram. In an interview in 2018, she mentioned how “I’m the type that separates my personal life from my work. When I appear in a drama, I’d like people to focus on that character only.”
Queen Of Tears broke records!
Her latest show 'Queen of Tears' aired its finale on April 28th while it made and broke records. It surpassed 'Crash Landing on You' (another K-drama series) as the highest-rated drama. Recently Kim Ji-won commented on her latest series and said, “The beginning of episode 11 is the most memorable. While normally watching the broadcasts, there are moments when I monitor myself, but episode 11 is also the one I watched while crying. While filming the episode where Hae In's family learns that she is sick, the senior actors were sad together beyond the camera even though it was a scene they did not appear in, so I could immerse myself more while acting. I recall tears flowing a lot just naturally, thanks to the senior actors."
In 2016 and 2017 she received recognition for her work in the series 'Descendants of the Sun' and 'Fight for my Way' series respectively. 'Fight for My Way' earned her 3 KBS drama awards, Excellent Actress (in a mini-series), Netizen Award and Best Couple Award.
