Vikram Vedha, yet another remake of a south Indian blockbuster, demonstrates that character development and plot complexity need not necessarily be sacrificed while writing a crowd-pleasing or mass-market entertainment.
The Directional team of Gayatri-Pushkar, who also wrote and directed the original, based their film on the mythical story of Vikram and Betaal. The film was released on September 30. Inspired by the Indian folktale Baital Pachisi, the film tells the story of Vikram, a police inspector who sets out to track down and kill Vedha, a gangster. After Vedha voluntarily surrenders himself, he tells Vikram three stories which change his perceptions of good and evil.
They changed the folktale character intelligent, incorruptible king Vikram into an honest police officer named Vikram (Saif Ali Khan), who only sees the world in black and white. The cunning ghost transforms into the notorious mobster Vedha (Hrithik Roshan), who defies the law virtually every day. Vedha tries the law enforcer's morality by sharing stories from his life that touch on the fine line between crime and punishment.
After competing with the multi-starrer movie Ponniyin Selvan: I, the action-thriller remake starring Hrithik Roshan and Saif Ali Khan managed to gross almost Rs 11 crore on its opening day.
