Old Romance Rekindled: Taiwanese Actor Barbie Hsu Marries Korean Musician DJ Koo

Popular Taiwanese actor Barbie Hsu recently married her old partner, South Korean musician DJ Koo aka Koo Jun-yup. The surprise announcement of her marriage came on Tuesday and has since sent fans of the couple into a frenzy. As per reports, Hsu and DJ Koo are old flames, having dated briefly during the 1990s.

"To have such a destiny with a lover from over 20 years ago – this is a love we both want to cherish and continue," Koo said in a statement on Instagram, as reported by CNA Lifestyle. His message was shared by Hsu as well.

Confirming the marriage, Koo, writing in Korean and Chinese, mentioned that he had reached out to Hsu after hearing of her divorce. Three months ago, Hsu ended her almost 11-year marriage to Chinese businessman Wang Xiaofei, with whom she has two children.

"When I heard the news of her divorce, I dug out her number from over 20 years ago and contacted her. Thankfully, her number has not changed and we reconnected. We have lost too much time together so I proposed marriage and Barbie finally agreed," Koo's statement read.

He added that he was marrying late in life and hoped to receive people's support. Koo is 52 while Hsu is 45.

Various reports suggest Koo and Hsu broke off their year-long relationship two decades ago because the musician's management allegedly disapproved of their alliance at the time. Koo was one half of the popular music duo Clon, the other being Kang Won-rae.

On her marriage to Koo, Hsu spoke on social media about life being uncertain and that she cherished the happiness she had in the present. "I thank everything that has led me step by step to where I am now," she wrote.

As per local media, Koo and Hsu dated for a while before the former proposed marriage, saying that they should start a family. The couple has reportedly registered their marriage in South Korea and will also register it in Taiwan. Hsu's family was allegedly not aware of the marriage until it was registered and her mother initially did not approve of it.
