Sridevi Birth Anniversary: The Actor Who Could Carry One-Woman Show In Every Way

The first starring woman from Bollywood who could draw crowds to the movies for a story without a male lead was Sridevi. The actor showed she could carry a one-woman show with financially lucrative films like Chaalbaaz and English Vinglish. She was flawless in every way.

She was renowned for her reserved and reserved attitude, but she was known for her outspoken and headstrong on-screen image, frequently portraying smart, strong-willed women. Sridevi received the Padma Shri in 2013—the fourth-highest civilian honour bestowed by the nation—for her contributions to Indian culture through the performing arts. Additionally, she received the title of "India's Greatest Actress in 100 Years" in a national survey conducted by CNN-IBN in 2013 to mark the 100th anniversary of Indian film.

At the age of four, Sridevi had her acting debut in the 1967 Tamil film Kandhan Karunai, and in the 1969 mythical Tamil film Thunaivan, director M. A. Thirumugam gave her first main part. This movie was groundbreaking and lovable in every way. Even though Sridevi played Seema, a crucial character to the story, Anil Kapoor played the superhero in the film.  The Salim-Javed team wrote the screenplay and story for the movie, which starred Anil Kapoor, Sridevi, and Amrish Puri. This was their final project together before they parted. The main character is Arun Verma (Anil Kapoor), a charitable street musician who is given a masking technology that makes him invisible. He meets journalist Seema Sohni (Sridevi) while renting out his home to pay off his debts and develops feelings for her.

Sadma

When the movie was filmed, Sridevi had only appeared in one other film, yet the audience never noticed. She portrays the main character, a woman who has retrograde amnesia and acts like an 8-year-old child as a result. She played the part with the utmost purity and sensitivity, and in several moving sequences, she brought viewers to tears.
