Cut to 2022, after a courtship of seven years, the two are executing the most artistically and culturally rich wedding in the presence of their loved ones in the capital. Timeline of Richa Chadha-Ali Fazal love story

First meet

The couple met on the sets of the film Fukrey, where Chadha played the role of Don Bholi Punjaban and Fazal played a shy Zafar. Although the two had intrinsically different characters to play, they connected on and off the set because of their similarities in real life. The two bonded well and developed a good friendship for a long time. In a recent cover story ahead of their wedding festivities, the couple opened up about their first impressions of each other. Chadha recalled a preconceived notion about Fazal, when she'd started shooting for Fukrey. "I had always known him to be decent and respectful but also with a naughty and nutty side to him, and I could relate to that. Among the other boys in the group, I related to him the most and felt closest to him in terms of my mind. I think that was the seed of it all," she shared. Fazal, on the other hand, was impressed with Chadha's persona on screen having watched her in Gangs of Wasseypur. "I had never seen that kind of range in a person and I was floored. As an actor, the kind of compassion one needs to have to be able to deliver such a performance with such nuances, that attracted me and I thought it would be fun to meet her and pick her brain," recalled Fazal.

Confessed their love for each other

Chadha was the first one to confess her love for him. The two were at Chadha's house and were watching the film Chaplin when she noticed Fazal enjoying the film beside her, and she knew at that moment she found her person, with an added bonus of him sharing a similar taste in life as her. Fazal believes his love story is one of the most beautiful personal journeys of his life. "I can tell you that it is a liking that is unmatched in the life that I have lived until now that I am really, really proud of. As they say in the movies, it just happened," he said.

"We live on the imbalances, and we love that. We complete each other because we are not the perfect 50-50, but that changes with each situation. That’s what keeps us uniquely interested in each other."

Official public appearance as a couple

In 2017, the couple walked the red carpet for the premiere of the film Victoria and Abdul which starred Ali Fazal as Abdul. The two walked hand in hand at the Venice Film Festival, officially declaring their relationship to the public. The two also shared screen space once again in Fukrey 2 the same year.

The Maldives Proposal

The couple's Maldives vacation turned out to be a turning point in taking their relationship to a next level. Ali Fazal proposed to Richa Chadha while they were holidaying in the Maldives together in 2019. Fazal proposed to her at dinner and Chadha believes it was the cutest proposal ever because Fazal took a ten-minute nap on the sand itself after she said yes, considering his nervousness and stress about the same.

The multiple delays in the wedding

The couple decided to tie the knot in 2020, however, the pandemic delayed their plan multiple times in the past two years. Having faced tragedy at the hand of Covid-19, Fazal also lost his mother and grandfather in the first two waves of the pandemic. The couple may have had obstacles in planning the wedding, their love, however, only grew and stood the test of time. Chadha believes that had it not been for Fazal in her life, she may have not considered marriage at all, and now that she is getting married she just wants it to be tasteful. “I have no illusions about myself; I am not a princess, I just want an easy, beautiful, tasteful wedding.”

The wedding Announcement

The couple finally announced the news of their wedding via social media on September 30. In a heartwarming joint audio message, the two expressed their gratitude for the fandom, and wellwishers in the industry, and announced that they're heading to Delhi for their wedding festivities. The two have been hashtagging their wedding celebration as 'Mohabbat Mubarak'.

 "I think you’ll witness celebrations that resonate with our personalities, where we respect our cultures, music, art and things that make us who we are as Indians. And, being artists, it’s lovely to have the love and support of other artists as well. You’ll see I can’t say too much," they revealed in a magazine.

Wedding festivities

The couple kicked off their wedding festivities with Mehendi and Sangeet ceremonies. The two took to Instagram to share the latest updates from the events, from sharing photos of their name initials on Mehendi to dance performances from their Sangeet night. The couple's wedding will be artistically and culturally rich, something that the two share in common and have great respect for. They are all set to tie the knot on October 4.
