Takeoff, the third rapper in the group Migos has reportedly passed away. The 28-year-old rapper, whose true name is Kirshnik Khari Ball was shot dead while playing dice with Quavo at a bowling alley in Houston at 2:30 in the morning. Takeoff was pronounced dead on the spot, while Quavo was unhurt.
Takeoff was born in Lawrenceville, Georgia. In 2008, he started rapping with Quavo and Offset, his uncle and cousin, as the group Polo Club. Known for popularising the triplet flow—Migos' trademark rapid-fire cadence—in modern rap, the song was eventually remixed by Toronto rapper Drake, who would go on to have a long-lasting relationship with all three members of the group.
Rapper Takeoff Shot Dead
- According to TMZ, the fatal event occurred just after 2:30 AM, when police received a call reporting a man shot at the bowling alley known as 810 Billiards & Bowling Houston.
- Takeoff and Quavo were supposedly playing dice, that is when someone began firing, reportedly shot Takeoff either in the head or close to it. He was determined dead on the spot.
- Quavo, wearing an orange shirt, and others could be seen around Takeoff in video footage that was obtained by TMZ Hip Hop from the scene. Quavo screamed for someone to call for assistance as they initially attempted to move him before setting him back down.
- Takeoff shared a selfie from the bowling alley just a few hours before the shooting. Earlier that evening, Quavo posted a video of himself touring Houston with Jas Prince, who was celebrating his birthday.
- Friends and admirers of the late rapper paid tribute to him on Twitter. Boxer Chris Eubank Jr, "I remember Takeoff being a very down to earth, cool dude. Can’t believe I’m having to say this again about another young black star being killed for no reason, something really has to change in the industry."
- Twitch streamer Adin Ross wrote, "Rest in peace to Takeoff, I just spoke to him too. I’m in shock right now, I can’t believe it. I pray to god it’s fake. This shit just ain’t fair bro wtf."
The group released Juug Season-their first mixtape as Migos, in 2011. Migos' first widely popular track Versace was released in 2013. In 2016, Lil Uzi Vert-produced song Bad and Boujee is what made Migos famous. Other Top 10 songs by the group include MotorSport featuring Nicki Minaj and Cardi B, as well as Walk It Talk It featuring Drake. Takeoff has one album out as a solo artist (2018's The Last Rocket, which debuted at No. 4 in the US) and one record out as a duo, (Only Built for Infinity Links, released last month) alongside Quavo.
