Mani Ratnam's magnum opus, with its lavish scope and impressive star cast, has been making headlines. The movie is based on Kalki Krishnamurthy's well-known, similarly titled historical Tamil novel. There are five volumes to the book. He finished this manuscript in three years and six months. Additionally, Kalki has made three trips to Sri Lanka for research on this book.
An amazing star cast, including Aishwarya, Vikram, Karthi, Jayam Ravi, Jayaram, Trisha, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sobhita, Sarath Kumar, Parthiban, Lal, and others, can be seen in the film. The film marks Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Mani Ratnam's fourth collaboration.
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan will be seen playing a double role in the movie. She will play Nandini, Princess of Pazhuvoor, in the movie. Periya Pazhuvettaraiyar, who is played by Sarathkumar, is married to Nandini. She plans to topple the Chola dynasty. The mother of Nandini, Mandakini Devi, will also be portrayed by Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.
In the film, Vikram will play Aditya Karikalan, the crown prince and leader of the Northern forces as well as Arulmozhivarman and Kundavai's older brother. Jayam Ravi plays Arulmozhivarman, also known as Ponniyin Selvan, who subsequently became the famous monarch Rajaraja I and the younger brother of Aditya Karikalan and Kundavai.
Vallavaraiyan Vandiyadevan, the valiant, courageous, and witty warrior prince of the Vannar Clan, is played by Karthi. The music for the film is composed by AR Rahman.
