The Academy Awards ceremony is presented by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences every year. The shortlisted films competing in ten categories were announced earlier on December 21, 2021, and the final nominations came out on February 8, 2022. The final Oscar nominations 2022 were announced by actors Tracee Ellis Ross and Leslie Jordon. The Oscars will air live on Channel ABC and its website on Sunday, March 27, 2022, at 8 EDT/5 PDT or March 28, 2022, at 5:30 AM according to the Indian Standard Time.

Belfast

Belfast is set in Northern Ireland during the Troubles of 1990s while also including a conflict between people who wanted independence of the UK and those who didn't. The semi-autobiographical film is directed by Kenneth Branagh and stars Jamie Dornan, Caitriona Balfe, Judi Dench and Jude Hill among others.

Directed by Adam McKay, Don't Look Up cast includes Leonardo DiCaprio, Himesh Patel, Michael Chiklis, Lance Norris, Lizzie Short along with Ashleigh Banfield, Breanna Wing and Isaac Liev Schreiber along with others. The story follows the adventures of two astronomers as they embark on a media journey to warn the humankind about an approaching comet which may result in the destruction of Earth.

2021 drama-musical CODA follows the story of Ruby (Emilia Jones) who is the only hearing member in a deaf family. She finds herself drawn towards her duet partner at her high school's choir club while also having a passion for singing. The film is directed by Sian Heder and is adapted from French drama film La Famille Bélier.

The happy-go-lucky family of the Williams attempts to defy all odds and expectations laid before them to create a name for themselves in the history. Will Smith is seen as Richard Williams, who is determined to train his daughter Venus and Serena. King Richard is directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green.

Nightmare Alley

Set in the 1940s, Nightmare Alley is a psychological-thriller drama directed by Guillermo del Toro. The film is adapted from William Lindsay Gresham's novel by the same name. The film include actors Bradley Cooper, Cate Blanchett, Rooney Mara, Toni Collette, Paul Anderson and Willem Dafoe in prominent roles.

Adapted from 1957 musical by the same name, the film follows the young romance between Toni (Ansel Elgort) and Maria (Rachel Zegler) who belong to rival families. A controversy involving Zegler erupted when the actor alleged that she was not invited for the 94th Academy Awards ceremony. The musical-drama is directed by Steven Spielberg.

Dune

Sci-fi adventure film Dune is adapted from Frank Herbert's novel by the same name and includes an ensemble cast of Zendaya, Timothee Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Jason Momoa and Stellan Skarsgard among the others. The Power of the Dog is a psychological-drama film based on Thomas Savage's novel by the same name. The film covers a wide range of themes including love, jealousy, masculinity and sexuality.

Alana Haim, Cooper Hoffman, Bradley Cooper, George DiCaprio, Skyler Gisondo and Tom Waits star in this 2021 romance-drama film directed by Paul Thomas Anderson. Seth in 1970, the film follows the romance between Alana (Haim) and Gary (Hoffman) in the San Fernando Valley, California.

Drive My Car

Japanese-drama film Drive My Car is directed by Ryusuke Hamaguchi and is based on the short story by Japanese writer Haruki Murakami. The story follows the unlikely relationship between an aging actor and 20-year-old female driver which develops while they are on the road.
