Nupur Alankar is an actor who has been in the television industry for three decades and has appeared in shows such as Shaktimaan, Diya Aur Baati Hum, and Ghar Ki Laxmi Betiyan. She has decided to give up the show business and take sanyas (retire) from the material world. She is seen travelling to holy places while wearing saffron clothes, and she is currently on her way to the Himalayas.
The actor took sanyas this year in February. She told ETimes that since she had a natural inclination toward spiritualism and had been practising 'adhyatm (spirituality)', it was only a matter of time before she fully committed herself to it. She described it as a "major step," adding that the Himalayas would inspire and accelerate her journey. To cover travel and other essential costs, she has rented out her Mumbai apartment.

The actor is in the process of divorcing her spouse, actor Alankar Srivastava. She claimed that he had freed her to pursue her spiritual journey. However, the two have not yet separated legally. In response to reactions of disbelief to her decision, she stated that many believed she made this choice because she was "emotionally heartbroken and tired of life." She denied these rumours, claiming that the lockdown helped her become detached.

During the lockdown, Alankar was allegedly going through a financial problem. Her mother also got quite unwell during this time and she couldn't afford the treatment. She reportedly failed to raise 500 rupees for her mother's prescriptions. After that, she turned to the crowdfunding platform for assistance and received financial aid there. Along with this, she received assistance from other members of the TV industry. She stated that as of 2019, she had been working for her mother and was unable to work because of this.
She added that she came to the realisation that she was no longer afraid of losing anything when her mother passed away in December 2020. She felt free from all expectations and duties. She highlighted how she doesn’t miss her life in showbiz, she explained there was no place for ‘drama’ in her life. She stated, "I used to worry about my success and popularity when I worked in show business. I feel peaceful at present."
