Monali Thakur Reveals She Has Been Married To A Swiss Restaurateur For Three Years Now
Singer-songwriter Monali Thakur in a recent interview has revealed that she has been married to Switzerland-based restaurateur Maik Richte for the last three years. The 34-year-old singer kept a low profile and managed to keep her alliance a secret for three years.
Monali revealed that she got married to Maik in 2017, “I haven’t made it official anywhere on social media yet, but people had already guessed it. A couple of times when my ring was mistakenly visible in my Instagram photos, a lot of people commented, asking if it was my wedding ring. That said, Maik and I have successfully been able to hide our marriage for three years.”
The Moh Moh Ke Dhaage singer said that her marriage will ‘’come as a shock’’ to her industry friends as none of them were aware or even invited to the wedding. “We kept delaying the ceremony and announcement and three years just passed by,” said Monali, adding, “Mujhe pata hai bahot gali padne wali hai logon se, but I think when we have our wedding ceremony and invite people for the celebrations, they won’t be upset anymore.”
I haven’t made it official anywhere on social media yet, but people had already guessed it.
Monali also revealed that the ceremony didn’t take place as it was scheduled, because Maik was almost deported on their wedding day. “He thought that he will get a visa on arrival here because he had read it somewhere on the Internet. So he was almost thrown out of the country. The day we were supposed to get married, he was kept at the airport like a kaidi,” she quipped. “But then the Indian government helped a lot. They made sure that we got married on the day we were supposed to,” she added.
Thakur met her husband Maik Richte in Switzerland and they “clicked instantly.” Monali said, “Maik proposed to me at the exact spot where we had met for the first time, under a tree, on a freezing Christmas Eve 2016. My reply was an instant yes.”
Monali’s latest music video, Dil Ka Fitoor features the couple. Thakur disclosed that Maik was not the first choice for it. “Initially, there was a German model that was supposed to feature alongside me. But then my team felt that the chemistry might not be there or might not be as good as they’d want. So, I told Maik, he was going to feature in the video with me.
Monali Thakur has won the National Film Award for Best Female Playback Singer for the song Moh Moh Ke Dhaage from the 2015 film Dum Laga Ke Haisha. She has sung popular tracks like Zara Zara Touch Me from Race, Sawaar Loon from Lootera, and Badri Ki Dulhania from Badrinath Ki Dulhania.
