Maya Govind, Famous Poet And Lyricist Who Wrote Songs For 350 Films Passes Away

In 1970, Govind performed as Venare Bai in a famous stage play titled Khamosh! Adalat Jari Hai written by Vijay Tendulkar.

Maya Govind, known for her many songs and poems passed away on April 7. The 80-year-old lyricist was undergoing treatment at a hospital for two months and then was taken back to her home, as per reports.

Govind's last rites will be performed after 3 pm at Pawan Hans Crematorium, Vile Parle West Mumbai. Several media reports state that Govind has been unwell for the past few months and was admitted to a hospital in Mumbai. As per a report by APV Live, the lyricist's son Ajay Govind said that she was suffering from brain blood clotting and was admitted to Arogya Nidhi Hospital in Juhu, Mumbai between December 27 to 31 in 2021. He alleged that due to negligence shown by the hospital, Maya Govind was taken to her home for further treatment on January 26,2022.

The famous lyricist did not just write songs for about 350 films, she also wrote songs for many television songs and wrote books as well. Some of her famous songs are from the films Aarop, Saavan Ko Ane De, Hum Tumhare Hain Sanam, Sautela, Raziya Sultan, Paayal Ki Jhankaar, Baal Bacchadhari, Garv, Main Khiladi Anadi, Chaahat, Imaandar, Tohfa Mohabbat Ka, Anmol, Yaarana among many other films. She also wrote lyrics for Hindi television dramas Maayka and Kismat.

Some other films with songs written by Maya Govinda are: Daman, Bekaboo, Sultan, Aar aur Paar, Lal Badshaah, Baawri Hmesha, Ganga Ki Kasam, Gaj Gamini, Takkar, Dalaal and Kaed.

Maya Govind was born in 1940 in the city of Lucknow of Uttar Pradesh. She started writing lyrics for film songs in 1972. Since the 180s, Govind wrote lyrics for many serials and also released her own albums. Govind is the author of 10 books which have ghazals, couplets, nazms, songs written for god and goddesses, and many songs. The author was also a trained kathak dancer. Maya Govind was given many awards during her career for her contribution to the Indian music and film industry. In 1970, Govind performed as Venare Bai in a famous stage play titled Khamosh! Adalat Jari Hai written by Vijay Tendulkar. Her role said to be memorable among the art admirers. The artiste won Best Actress award by Sangeet Natak Academy in Lucknow for the role.
