In the poster released by Warner Bros Pictures on Instagram, Robbie can be seen sitting behind the wheels of a pink convertible. The release date for the film was also unveiled in the caption of the post, which read, "#BARBIE July 21, 2023, Only in theatres."

The poster was shared at the CinemaCon which is being held in Las Vegas this week and captures 31-year-old Robbie in the iconic Mattel doll look, surrounded by all things pink- a colour long associated with the doll. However, Margot herself is seen wearing a white and blue ensemble in the photograph.

The movie also stars Ryan Gosling as Ken, Issa Rae, Will Ferrell, Kate McKinnon, Simu Liu, Michael Cera and America Ferrara, amongst others. Last year, Robbie, while talking about the film, told the British Vogue, "People generally hear Barbie and think 'I know what that movie is going to be,' and then they hear that Greta Gerwig is writing and directing it, and they're like, 'Oh, well, maybe I don't...."

Starring Margot Robbie, Greta Gerwig's Barbie will be releasing on July 21, 2023.

The Australian actor also said that even though the role has nostalgia attached to it, it also comes with historical controversy over the doll. She said, "But with that come a lot of exciting ways to attack it."

The controversy was about the traditional way how a barbie looked- thin, white and blonde. In 2016, Mattel gave Barbie a much-required makeover and introduced the doll in three new body shapes--tall, curvy and petite. This move was based on the backlash that they received for setting unrealistic body standards.

The film has been in works since 2016 and initially the role of Barbie was supposed to be played by Amy Schumer but by March 2017, she left the project because of a scheduling conflict. However, Schumer recently revealed that she left the project because of creative differences.
