The film penned by Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight, circles around a weekend in the early 1990s when Diana decided to separate from Prince Charles amidst the hearsay of affairs. The late princess was spending the Christmas holiday with the royal family at the Sandringham estate in Norfolk when she decided to end her marriage to Prince Charles.

Stewart stars in the film opposite Jack Farthing, Poldark star, who plays Prince Charles. The cast also includes Timothy Spall (Mr. Turner) BAFTA nominee, Academy Award nominee, Sally Hawkins (The Shape of Water), and Sean Harris (Mission: Impossible – Fallout). 2022 also marks the 25th anniversary of Diana’s death.

The U.S. rights to the movie were jointly acquired by Neon and Topic Studios in June 2020. The film is considered to be a potential contender at the Academy Awards. Jackie, Larrain’s last film got Natalie Portman the best actress nomination for playing Jackie Kennedy Onassis in the days after JFK’s assassination.

Apart from Spencer, other high-profile movies to play at Venice include Denis Villeneuve’s Dune, and a big-budget sci-fi epic starring Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya. The film is based on a sci-fi comic.
