Rahul Sadasivan wrote and directed Bhoothakaalam, a Malayalam-language horror film starring Shane Nigam and Revathi. On January 21, the film was made available on OTT. The film's plot depicts a mother and son who are subjected to inexplicable experiences that cause them to question their sanity.

In the film, Revathi plays Asha, who lives with her son Vinu (Shane Nigam) and looks after her ill mother, who later dies. Asha is a schoolteacher who manages her family's finances on her own. Asha is exhausted both mentally and physically from her efforts to get Vinu a job.

Vinu begins to suspect that he is sharing his home with someone else. Initially, he believes it was his mother who was attempting to express her displeasure with him, but he soon realises it was someone else. Asha suspects there is a problem with him and takes him to a counsellor. Vinu, on the other hand, refuses to work with the counsellor. While Asha begins to realise that Vinu's suspicions of someone else being present in the house are correct, the counsellor learns about the house's historical history. Two people hung themselves in the same house several years ago, unable to take the feelings of being in the presence of another person. He also discovers that both of them experienced emotional setbacks at different times in their lives for various reasons.

Later, Asha and Vinu are both confined to the house due to tragic events. They eventually discover that everything is just their own hallucinations as a result of their setbacks and flee the mansion. They come to an agreement and leave the house.
