Kaun Banegi Shikharwati Trailer: Modern-Day Princesses Engage In Squid Game-Like Battle

The Kaun Banegi Shikharwati trailer was released Thursday, in what many on social media have called the desi rendition of the popular show Squid Games. The upcoming Hindi comedy series has four modern princesses trying to reconcile with their father, the king of Shikharwat, for the throne of the kingdom.

A teaser for the series was released on December 15. Read about it here. Kaun Banegi Shikharwati stars actors Naseeruddin Shah, Lara Dutta, Soha Ali Khan, Kritika Kamra, Anya Singh, Raghubir Yadav in prominent roles.

Produced by Applause Entertainment and Emmay Entertainment, the classic "family riot" involves four sisters (Lara Dutta as Rajkumari Devyani Shikharwat, Soha Ali Khan as Princess Gayatri Shikharwat, Kritika Kamra as Princess Kamini Shikharwat, Anya Singh as Princess Uma Shikharwat) and their father King Mrityunjay played by Naseeruddin Shah.

As per the ">trailer, the story is set in today's context and is about the royal family of a place called Shikharwat. King Mrityunjay is unable to pay the huge wealth tax that he owes to the government and his dues have been pending for quite a long time. He also wants to reunite with his estranged daughters who are not living as royally as him.

The princesses are summoned to contest against each other and whoever wins the game will be given the throne of Shikharwat. Family dynamics have been explored, with key characteristics given to each player. Khan's Princess Gayatri, for instance, is shown to be reflective, connecting with her father in a scene where he asks her directly if she is capable enough of becoming "king." Kamra's Princess Kamini, on the other hand, possesses many quirks as a technologically forward, sharp-tongued woman.

Meanwhile, income tax raids on the palace are ongoing, with a spotlight on some treasure apparently hidden by the king.

The series also features Cyrus Sahukar and Shikhar Srivastava alongside other actors. It has been written and directed by Gauravv Chawla and Ananya Banerjee. Nikkhil Advani, who has been part of blockbuster hits like Kal Ho Naa Ho, Airlift, Batla House, is the creative director of the show.

The show will premiere on ZEE5 on January 7, 2022.
