Instagram accounts of several popular Pakistani actors, including Mahira Khan, Hania Aamir, and Sajal Aly, are no longer accessible to users in India. This restriction comes shortly after the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, and is believed to be part of national security actions taken by the Indian government.

When Indian users try to visit these celebrity pages, they are met with a message that reads, "Account not available in India. This is because we complied with a legal request to restrict this content."

Which Pakistani Celebs Are Blocked on Instagram in India?

Alongside Mahira, Hania, and Sajal, other Pakistani stars whose accounts are reportedly blocked in India include Ali Zafar, Ayeza Khan, Sanam Saeed, Maya Ali, and Iqra Aziz Hussain. These celebrities have long enjoyed a large following in India, thanks to their roles in dramas and films that are widely loved across borders.

However, not all accounts have been restricted. Instagram profiles of Fawad Khan, Fahad Mustafa, Saba Qamar Zaman, Yumna Zaidi, Mehwish Hayat, and Urwa Hocane were still visible to Indian users at the time of writing.

In addition to Instagram, a few YouTube channels have also faced restrictions. Leading Pakistani entertainment channels such as Hum TV and ARY Digital are reportedly no longer accessible to Indian viewers. This follows the Indian government’s earlier move to block 16 Pakistani YouTube channels, including major news outlets like Dawn, Geo News, Bol News, and Samaa TV. Prominent journalists and creators such as Asma Shirazi and The Pakistan Experience were also affected.

According to reports, the Indian government said that the blocked channels were spreading “inflammatory, false, or misleading content that could disturb national harmony”.

This digital crackdown comes in the wake of a tragic terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22. Armed militants reportedly opened fire on tourists, targeting those who identified as Hindu. According to survivors, the attackers told them to “go and tell the government” what had happened.

The brutal attack resulted in the deaths of 26 people, including a Nepali tourist. The incident has sparked nationwide outrage and a renewed focus on tightening security and digital monitoring.
