Netflix’s First Kill is the show for those who are looking for a dark love story with supernatural undertones. The young adult series, set in mid-2000s is a vampire-meets-human-romance which explores a same-sex relationship between two teenage girls. Adapted by American writer VE Schwab from her short story of the same title, the show's protagonists come from two very different families and meet as they both gear up to make their first kill.
Calliope, played by Imani Lewis belongs to a group of monster killers and seeks to kill her first vampire to join their ranks. Juliette is played by Sarah Catherine Hooks, who comes from a long line of vampires. Instead of killing each other, they fall in love.
The"> trailer introduces the audience to Juliette who prepares herself to make her first kill. According to this series, killing a human is a ritual for young vampires which would allow them to become a part of their clan. The trailer also shows the changes in Juliette’s body as she hit puberty. Only killing a human would make her immortal. She hides her true nature from her high school friends. Meanwhile, Calliope is preparing herself to make her first kill - she must target a vampire to earn her place in her family of monster hunters.
While their families have spent decades fighting each other, the two women fall in love. The trailer shows them sharing secrets, exploring their sexualities and trying to understand why is their queerness a taboo. They attempt to understand the prejudices, and hatred and fight back. However, their families use all their might to forbid them from dating. Will they be successful though?
