Nayanthara has now released a statement in response to the removal of her film Annapoorani from Netflix due to alleged sentimental hurt. She expressed regret, starting her statement with 'Jai Shri Ram,' and acknowledged that despite their sincere effort to convey a positive message, unintended hurt might have been caused. She clarified that the team did not anticipate the removal of a film that had already been through the censorship process and had a theatrical release.

Nayanthara Apologises For Hurting Sentiments

Take a look at the post here.

Nayanthara's recent movie Annapoorani is facing criticism for reportedly offending religious sentiments and allegedly endorsing 'Love Jihad'. A First Information Report (FIR) has also been officially filed against Nayanthara's Tamil film in Mumbai. Former Shiv Sena member Ramesh Solanki instigated the action, accusing the movie makers of offending Hindu sentiments and disrespecting Lord Ram.

The FIR asserts that the film promotes love jihad and alleges that one of its characters misinterprets the Valmiki Ramayana, depicting Lord Rama as a 'meat-eater'. This FIR has been lodged at the LT Marg police station in Mumbai.

FIR Filed Against Nayanthara's Annapoorani

  • Former Shiv Sena member Ramesh Solanki, founder of the Hindu IT cell and a former Shiv Sena member, criticised the film Annapoorani on January 6, labelling it 'anti-Hindu' and highlighting what he deemed problematic.
  • He accused the film of endorsing love jihad and urged both the Mumbai Police and Maharashtra Home Minister Devendra Fadnavis to take strict measures by registering an FIR against the moviemakers and Netflix India.
  • In a statement, Solanki outlined specific grievances with the film, mentioning scenes where a Hindu priest's daughter is depicted offering Namaz to cook Biryani, the alleged promotion of love jihad, and a character suggesting that Lord Ram was a meat eater.
  • He emphasised the film's release coinciding with the Pran Pratishtha of Bhagwan Shri Ram Mandir, suggesting a deliberate attempt to offend Hindu sentiments. Solanki shared his complaint, tagging relevant authorities and requesting the registration of an FIR against those responsible for hurting religious sentiments.

  • In his complaint, Solanki highlighted the discrepancy between the film's portrayal of an actress's father as a temple priest who cooks offerings for Lord Vishnu, while his daughter is depicted as cooking meat, falling in love with a Muslim, participating in Ramzan Iftar, and offering Namaz.

  • Solanki called for the registration of an FIR against several individuals involved with Annapoorani, including director Nilesh Krishnaa, actor Nayanthara, and producers Jatin Sethi, R Ravindran, Punit Goenka, Shariq Patel of Zed Studios, and Monika Shergil of Netflix India.

Despite the complaint, neither the film's makers nor the streaming platform have issued a response. Annapoorani, featuring Jai and Sathyaraj alongside Nayanthara, revolves around the aspirations of Annapoorani, aspiring to become a chef despite facing challenges.
