Slowly but surely, we are seeing more and more women getting recognised and awarded for their achievements and success. The 76th British Academy Film Awards (BAFTA), which honoured the top domestic and foreign films of 2022, were presented on February 19, 2023.

Female Winners At BAFTA Awards

Cate Blanchett for Tar

Cate Blanchett plays Lydia Tár, a renowned conductor who is accused of sexual abuse. She described her role in the movie as possible, career-ending.” During her emotional acceptance speech, she said: “Thank you so much to BAFTA. This is extraordinary. I didn't prepare anything because it's been such an extraordinary year for women.”

Kerry Condon for The Banshees of Inisherin

Kerry Condon won the award for Best Supporting Actress in the movie. Condon thanked the film's writer-director, McDonagh, for his work as she accepted the trophy, adding, "Thank you for all the parts you gave me throughout my career. You make me so proud to be an Irish woman." She also expressed gratitude to her family, her amazing cast, and her horses and dogs.

Emma Mackey as a Rising Star

Emma Mackey took home the EE Rising Star Award. She received recognition for her performance in the Emily Bronte biopic. While receiving the award, she said, “Hi! I didn't prepare anything! Thank you BAFTA, thank you to EE, and thank you to everyone who voted. Sheila, Naomi, and Daryl.”

Lesley Paterson for All Quiet on the Western Front

With seven awards, including best film and best director, the German movie All Quiet on the Western Front was the big winner at the British Academy Film Awards (BAFTA) on Sunday. With her co-writers, Edward Berger and Ian Stokell, former Scottish professional triathlete Lesley Paterson won best-adapted screenplay for All Quiet On The Western Front. She is from Stirling and received the honour after purchasing the rights to the well-known German book and attempting to produce the movie for 16 years.

Charlotte Wells for Aftersun

Charlotte Wells received the award for Afterson, a critically praised movie starring Paul Mescal. She honoured the victims of the earthquake in Turkey as she accepted the medal. She said, “A special thank you to our Turkish crew. I don’t think anyone in that country’s been unaffected by the earthquake.” Charlotte praised the producers, cast, and crew and spoke about how her film was a "eulogy" for her father, adding that "he's not here, but my mum is."

Catherine Martin for Elvis

Catherine Martin is an Australian costume designerproduction designer and set designer. She won the BAFTA for Best Costume Design on Elvis. Apart from winning the BAFTA, Martin is also a 4 time Oscar winner.
