After years of anticipation, Euphoria Season 3 is officially on the horizon. HBO released the long-awaited official trailer on January 14, finally offering fans a deeper look at the next chapter of the Emmy-winning drama. The series has been off screens since Season 2 ended in February 2022, making its return one of the most anticipated television events in recent years.
With a confirmed premiere date, a striking new visual approach, and a story that pushes its characters further into adulthood, Season 3 marks a significant evolution for the show.
Created, written, directed, and executive produced by Sam Levinson, Euphoria first premiered in 2019 and quickly became a defining series of its generation.
Led by Zendaya’s acclaimed performance as Rue Bennett, the show is known for its unfiltered portrayal of addiction, identity, love, and loss.
Over its first two seasons, Euphoria earned 25 Emmy nominations and nine wins, solidifying its place as one of HBO’s most successful and talked-about series.
HBO has confirmed that Euphoria Season 3 will debut on Sunday, April 12, airing weekly from 9:00 to 10:00 p.m. ET on HBO and streaming on HBO Max. The third season will consist of eight episodes and continue the show’s partnership with A24.
Despite the long gap between seasons, Euphoria remains one of the most-watched series in HBO’s history, and expectations for its return are high.
A Darker Story and a Leap Into Adulthood
Season 3 takes place several years after the events of Season 2 and leaves high school firmly in the past. The official logline describes the season as the story of a group of childhood friends wrestling with faith, redemption, and the problem of evil.
The newly released trailer suggests that adulthood brings even greater challenges than their already turbulent teenage years. The characters are older, the consequences are heavier, and the emotional stakes are far more intense.
Zendaya returns as Rue, whose battle with addiction remains at the heart of the series. The trailer hints that her journey is far from resolved and that the choices she makes continue to shape the lives of those around her.
The series does not offer easy answers, instead leaning into moral complexity and emotional discomfort, themes that have always defined Euphoria.
Many familiar faces are back for Season 3. Series regulars include Zendaya, Hunter Schafer, Eric Dane, Jacob Elordi, Sydney Sweeney, Alexa Demie, Maude Apatow, Martha Kelly, Chloe Cherry, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, and Toby Wallace.
Returning guest stars include Colman Domingo, Dominic Fike, Nika King, Alanna Ubach, and several others who played key roles in earlier seasons.
The new season also introduces an expansive list of new guest stars. Among the most notable additions are Sharon Stone, Rosalía, Danielle Deadwyler, Marshawn Lynch, Natasha Lyonne, and Asante Blackk.
Their inclusion signals a broader world and new storylines that extend beyond the original friend group, reflecting the characters’ transition into adult life.
Season 3 also carries emotional weight due to the absence of several familiar characters. Barbie Ferreira and Storm Reid are not returning.
Angus Cloud, who portrayed fan-favourite Fezco, passed away in 2023. His loss is deeply felt and marks a significant emotional shift for the series.
Visually, Season 3 sets a new standard. The season was shot on a newly developed Kodak motion picture film stock in both 35mm and 65mm.
Sam Levinson and cinematographer Marcell Rév worked closely with Kodak to bring this format to television. Euphoria Season 3 is the first narrative TV series to use 65mm film extensively, creating a larger and more immersive image.
HBO has stated that this expanded visual scale mirrors the characters’ movement from the confines of high school into a wider and more unpredictable world.
Recapping Season 2
Season 2 ended with major turning points that continue to echo into the new season. Rue managed to stay sober for the rest of the school year after narrowly escaping a dangerous situation.
Nate turned his father, Cal, in to the police. Lexi’s play exposed long-hidden truths and fractured relationships. Fez was arrested following a violent police raid that ended tragically. These unresolved consequences form the emotional foundation of Season 3.
With its official trailer now released and its premiere date confirmed, Euphoria Season 3 is no longer a distant promise. It is a return shaped by time, loss, and ambition.
As the characters step into adulthood, the series appears ready to confront darker questions with the same honesty that made it a cultural force. When Euphoria returns on April 12, it does so not as a continuation of youth, but as a reckoning with what comes after.
