Chucky, the notorious killer doll from the Child’s Play franchise is a vicious serial killer who transfers his soul into a doll. The original film Child’s Play was released in 1988 and since then, there have been six sequels, a television series, a remake, a video game, and comic books in the franchise.

Horror fans celebrate October 25 as National Chucky The Notorious Killer Doll Day every year. With the powers of fiction and transferring souls into new dolls, there is no end to the antagonist Chucky. This resulted in the franchise having eight films and a television series under its belt.

Iconic Films Starring Chucky

Child’s Play

The antagonist of the Child’s Play franchise Chucky got his start in the 1988 original film Child’s Play. It featured the dying serial killer Charles Lee Ray using voodoo to transfer his soul inside a doll named Chucky (voiced by Brad Dourif). Chaos and murder ensue after Karen Barclays buy the doll for her son Andy (played by Alex Vincent).

While Andy attempts to warn people about the doll’s murderous nature, he is institutionalised and his mother struggles to protect her son and convince the police about the doll’s evil nature.

Child's Play 2

The sequel was set two years after the events of the first film and saw Dourif and Vincent reprise their roles from their previous film. The killer doll makes his way to kill Andy and finish the events that started in the original, while Andy's foster sister Kyle (played by Christine Elise) attempts to protect him.

The bond between Andy and Kyle has was an integral part of the film and persists throughout the franchise.

Curse of Chucky

The sixth instalment of the film franchise saw a return to the source material after previous films dabbled between meta-horror to dark comedy to slasher.

Chucky mysteriously arrives in an isolated home of a paraplegic child Nica Pierce and murders her mother Sarah. He begins infiltrating and terrorising the new family as he kills off the family members one by one.

Child's Play (Remake)

The 2019 film serves as a remake and reboot for the Child's Play franchise. Rather than a doll being imbued by the spirit of a serial killer, the remake has Chucky serving as a high-tech doll who becomes murderous after becoming self-aware.
