Celina Jaitley Threatened For Supporting Queer Community

During an interview with Masala, Celina Jaitley opened up about her experience during Pride Month. She shared the emotional impact of her makeup artist Probier Da's death. Probier Da played a significant role in Jaitley's life during her struggling years as a young model and was like a mother figure to her. His death deeply affected her, and their last conversation was centered around his fears as a gay man, including concerns about ageing, not having a life partner or children, and his desire to see Jaitley happily married. This tragic incident brought about a profound change within Jaitley, highlighting the challenges and stigma faced by the LGBTQIA community.

Celina Jaitley revealed that she faced threats from individuals across the country for her support of the LGBTQIA community. She expressed disappointment as even fellow LGBTQIA colleagues in the film industry distanced themselves, fearing exposure and vulnerability.

Despite the threats, she continued her support by backing LGBTQIA organisations, events, and film festivals. However, she had to hire additional personal security, incurring significant expenses, to ensure her safety. She also experienced letdowns from organisations she supported when Section 377 was revoked. She was hurt by individuals she stood up for, facing questions about her own sexuality, extremist threats, and being excluded from friend circles and film projects. She shared that she had encountered various challenges while advocating for the community.

During the interview, Celina Jaitley discussed a significant turning point in her life related to her failed relationship with a boyfriend who was secretly gay. She described this experience as a pivotal moment.
