The conservation around Britney Spears' conservatorship reignited after the release of the controversial documentary Framing Britney Spears which released in February. Her fans started a campaign named #FreeBritney asking for the conservatorship be lifted as it keeps Britney under her father Jamie Spears' control.

Vivian L Thoreen, Jamie Spears lawyer, told People that the pop star was always able to end the conservatorship if she wanted. She claimed that Jamie has “diligently and professionally carried out his duties as one of Britney’s conservators, and his love for his daughter and dedication to protecting her is clearly apparent to the court”.

"Any time Britney wants to end her conservatorship, she can ask her lawyer to file a petition to terminate it; she has always had this right but in 13 years has never exercised it," she added.

Britney has been appealing to the court to remove her father as her conservator but it is not clear how the legal proceedings will go forward.  Her lawyer had earlier said that Britney wants a legal guardian looking after her estate but she wants to choose that guardian herself. And it is clearly not her father.
