Khalia Bhatter: Amul Celebrates Success Of Alia Bhatt's Gangubai Kathiawadi

The film is on the life of Gangubai Kothewali, as captured in the book Mafia Queen of Mumbai by Hussain Zaidi and Jane Borges.

Alia Bhatt's biopic Gangubai Kathiawadi has opened to an impressive box office response, nearing the 40 crore mark in just four days of its release. To mark the film's successful opening Amul dedicated a cartoon to the film's lead.

In the shoutout of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's film, Amul's cartoon shows Gangubai played by Alia Bhatt lying in her signature poster pose, wearing a white saree and sporting a red bindi on her forehead. Gangubai is also holding three slices of bread generously slathered with butter, a brick of which is also lying in front of her. The cartoon comes with its usual quirky caption, "Khalia Bhatter (Ate Butter?) Amul, Popular taste!"

About Amul Gangubai Kathiawadi cartoon

Amul India shared the cartoon on their Instagram page on Monday,  with the caption, "The success of Bollywood's new release Gangubai Kathiawadi..." The post was done on February 28 and had garnered more than 12 thousand likes and more than 200 comments.

Bhatt went on to share the post on her Instagram story and wrote, "Oh!My!God!" along with four white hearts. Bhatt has been constantly sharing the promotional tour videos of the film and its box office figures. She had personally visited theatres to promote her film in Mumbai. Bhatt recently shared Sanjay Leela Bhansali's production house post which stated that going by three days collection of the film, the total amounts to 39.12 crores. This collection is at the time when theatres are running under 50 percent occupancy rules due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Gangubai Kathiawadi is based on the life of brother madame Gangubai Kothewali, whose life was captured in the book Mafia Queen of Mumbai by Hussain Zaidi and Jane Borges. The story follows a young Gangubai who belongs to an affluent family but is sold into the sex trade by her lover. Gangubai eventually rises through the ranks to run a brothel and then veers into social work to advocate the rights of women sex workers and their children.

The film was released in theatres on February 25.
