Alia Bhatt starrer Darlings teaser trailer released on July 5. The black comedy-drama film marks Bhatt’s first film as a producer and follows the lives of a mother-daughter duo as they struggle to find their place in the world.
Darlings stars producer and actor Alia Bhatt as Badru Qureshi, Shefali Shah as her mother Rukhshar Qureshi, Vijay Varma as Gaurav Mathur, Badru’s husband and Roshan Mathew as Akash Sharma, Badru’s best friend.
Gauri Khan, Gaurav Verma, and Bhatt serve as producers under the banners of Red Chillies Entertainment and Eternal Sunshine Productions, Bhatt's production house. The film is written and directed by Jasmeet K Reen and is scheduled to release on Netflix.
In Bhatt’s announcement for the teaser trailer, she described the film Darlings as “Thoda dark thoda comedy”. The short clip only contained audio from the film and followed a conversation in the dark between Bhatt, Shah, and Varma’s characters.

The Darlings teaser ">trailer begins with Bhatt’s voiceover as she tells the fable The Scorpion and the Frog. The voiceover plays while scenes from the upcoming film were shown. Vijay Varma’s character is implied to have a villainous role as the ‘scorpion’ in the scenario.
The teaser ends with Bhatt and Shah’s characters at the police station, speaking to an officer and claiming that there is a misunderstanding and that “the killing was only in our imagination”.
The teaser trailer received more than 220,000 views in less than an hour after its release.
The upcoming film Darlings is set to release on August 5, 2022, on the streaming giant Netflix. The film’s rights were acquired by Netflix in February 2022. Darlings will not have a theatrical release and will directly premiere as an original film on the streaming platform Netflix.
Netflix India also released the first official promotional poster for Darlings with the caption “Kya ek meindak aur bichhoo dost ho sakte hain? (Can a frog and scorpion be friends?)” and mentioned that the film would premiere on August 5, exclusively on Netflix.
