The AIIMS Director warned of the approaching of the COVID-19 third wave, taking note of the violations of pandemic protocols in markets. The third wave might hit the country in 6-8 weeks if measures are not taken, he said.

The Delhi High Court, on June 18, took note of the violations of COVID-19 protocols in markets in the national capital due to the easing of restrictions this week and warned that this will only hasten the third wave. Following the same, AIIMS chief's Randeep Guleria warned that the third wave of the pandemic can hit India in the next six to eight weeks if the mentioned violations are continued.

Several epidemiologists have already indicated that the third wave, being inevitable, is likely to hit the country in September-October.
