Veteran Actor Shabana Azmi Tests Positive For COVID-19

Actor Shabana Azmi who was recently seen in the show The Empire confirmed earlier today that she has tested positive for coronavirus and is currently under home isolation.

The actor who turned 71 last September shared the news on Instagram.

Along with a photograph of herself she wrote, “Have tested positive for Covid today. Have isolated myself at home and request all those who were in close contact with me to please get tested.” Actors Divya Dutta, Sandhya Mridul, designer Manish Malhotra and producer Boney Kapoor have finished her quick recovery.

Azmi's acting prowess has won her five National Awards and four international awards. She has also been bestowed with a Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan by the government of India.

Her upcoming release is Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani where she will be seen alongside Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt, Dharmendra and Jaya Bachchan. Azmi has also worked on Shekhar Kapur’s film What’s Love Got To Do With It? And, acted alongside Hollywood star, Emma Thompson.

“It’s a wrap for #Emma Thompson. What a warm, generous costar she has been. I will cherish the wonderful times we spent together,” the actor wrote on working with Thompson.

In January 2020 Azmi met with a car accident on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway. Her car dashed against a truck on the highway to Pune, near Khalapur. She was sitting behind the driver and suffered critical injuries. Her husband, the eminent lyricist, Javed Akhtar was also travelling in the car. However, he remained safe.
