For Mother’s Day 2023, Select Citywalk Saket and SheThePeople teamed up to create something that went far beyond the expected flowers and brunches. Instead, they offered mothers a rare and meaningful pause — a hands-on clay workshop that was equal parts therapeutic, joyful, and rooted in community. Set in the heart of New Delhi, this celebration invited women to connect with themselves and one another, shaping not just clay, but memories.

The Idea: An Invitation to Pause and Play

Motherhood, often romanticised, is also relentless. The idea behind the workshop was simple yet powerful: give mothers a space to unplug from routine, engage their senses, and create with their hands. Clay, as a medium, offered the perfect balance of calm and expression.

The event drew women from across Delhi-NCR, each bringing her own story, energy, and emotion to the table. Some came with their daughters, others alone but all left with a shared sense of warmth and wonder.

“The experience was therapeutic. I don’t remember the last time I did something just for myself,” shared one participant.

What SheThePeople and Select Citywalk Did

SheThePeople, known for championing women's voices and real-life stories, designed the experience to be deeply resonant. With clay as the core activity, the space was transformed into a soft, interactive zone of storytelling, laughter, and creation. The event wasn’t just about the activity — it was about honouring women’s emotional strength and invisible labour, and offering a gentle reminder: joy, too, is a form of resistance.

Real Stories, Real Bonds

In an on-ground vox pop, women opened up about their most cherished memories with their mothers:

“My mom would drag my slippers to the bathroom just so I could wake up. She pampered me beyond words — and my sisters were so jealous,” laughed one attendee.

“When I had my daughter, my mom said, 'Now you’ll know what I did for you'. And that moment changed me,” shared another.

Some spoke about family rituals like post-result lunches, others remembered quiet moments of reassurance before exams. One woman spoke of her mom dancing first at every party — “That joy she carried, I carry too.” Another, now a potter, recalled how her mom once made clay toys. “She was shocked when I quit my job for this, but I know she’s proud.”

These voices weren’t just testimonials — they were stories of resilience, humour, and intergenerational love. Captured as UGC on social media, these reflections amplified the spirit of the campaign far beyond the event space.

Emotional Impact: A safe, healing space was created for women to step away from roles and just be — playful, present, and at peace

In the end, the clay may have been reshaped into bowls, hearts, or keepsakes, but the real takeaway was intangible. It was the quiet pride in doing something for oneself. The comfort of recognition. The feeling of being seen.
