With the burning heat and scorching 'loo', the summer season has reached its peak. Until now, there have been at least 36 deaths all over the country as a result of this year's heat wave, during which temperatures have exceeded 50 degrees Celsius (122 degrees Fahrenheit). So, it becomes very important to keep yourself hydrated to avoid the wrath of the blazing summer. Even with the Monsoon approaching in some parts of the country the weather has turned hot and humid, in which our body needs water too.  An average person needs eight glasses of water per day. So, here are five tips to keep you hydrated, apart from daily water intake.

Fruits contain natural water in it, which can keep you hydrated and even activate your taste buds. You can go in for seasonal fruits like Watermelon, Muskmelon, Coconut and Sugarcane that are available in plenty during the hot season. These fruits consist of more than 90% of the water in it. They are highly recommended by doctors to keep you hydrated and fight the heat waves. A Watermelon which is a refreshing source of vitamin C, alone contains 92% of water. According to 'The George Mateljan Foundation', “watermelon is also high in lycopene, which reduces your chance of cancer, antioxidants to help reduce age deterioration and aid in recovery, and nitrous oxide, it also helps to regulate your blood pressure.” Other than these fruits, you can also binge on strawberries, grapes, peaches, dragon fruit, mangoes, etc.

Eat green leafy vegetables

Green leafy veggies are nutritious, healthy and you can easily add them in your daily diet plan. Like the Iceberg lettuce contains 96% water and is a great addition to any salad if you want to re-hydrate. This summer you can add and experiment with your own creative diet salad with Spinach, Gourd, Cucumber, etc. Cucumber alone contains 96% water. They have no saturated fat or cholesterol and are very high in vitamin K, vitamin B6, and iron.

The best part of summers is definitely the mouth-watering and delicious smoothies. Delicious drinks like Mocktails, Ice tea, Cold coffee, Milk, Lemonade, Sugarcane, Mango, Pineapple, juices, Coconut water, Butter-milk, etc. can easily quench your thirst. According to a study conducted by McMaster University, “milk is better than water and sports drinks for rehydration and recovery after exercise (especially chocolate milk) because it is a source of high-quality protein, carbohydrates, calcium, and electrolytes.” PLOS ONE' study has broken the myth and has proven that coffee doesn't cause dehydration. A cup of coffee can contribute to your water needs; coffee can also give you a sharper memory, boost athletic endurance and performance, and reduce the risk of many serious ailments including diabetes and heart disease, etc.

The Mediterranean region has a unique and& effective way to counter the heat waves by adding more oil intake in their food. Oils, such as flaxseed oil, do a wonderful job of keeping the body hydrated at a cellular level by directing the nutrients for the best hydrating effect. You can also apply it externally; it will rejuvenate your skin and retain body water.

This summer, these five tips will keep your body hydrated, giving you a break from your monotonous water routine. With the increasing temperature, binge on your favourite ice candy bar and keep yourself healthy and hydrated.
