The Golden Eye prize for this year's Zurich Film Festival will be given to Charlotte Gainsbourg. The international premiere of Gainsbourg's most recent movie, The Almond and the Seahorse, starring Rebel Wilson, will take place immediately after the award presentation on September 26 at the festival.

According to Christian Jungen, artistic director of the Zurich Film Festival, Charlotte Gainsbourg is one of the most adaptable character actors in European cinema. "She is renowned for her bold choice of roles: Whether horror thriller or romantic comedy, avant-garde drama or Hollywood mainstream, she has the ability to give her characters human depth and credibility across all genres. And she is one of those rare actresses who can captivate with her charisma and carry an entire movie on her own.”

The daughter of Serge Gainsbourg and Jane Birkin, Charlotte Gainsbourg first garnered attention at the age of 14 for her portrayal in Claude Miller's L'Effrontée, which won her the César Award for Most Promising Actress. Gainsbourg has now gone on to appear in other international motion pictures, including Todd Haynes' I'm Not There, Michel Gondry's The Science of Sleep, and 21 Grams by Alejandro G. Iárritu. She received the Best Actress prize at the 62nd Cannes Film Festival in 2018 for her performance in Lars von Trier's Antichrist.

Gainsbourg and Wilson portray an archaeologist and an architect who is trying to forge a shared future in the movie after suffering a severe brain injury that separates them from the ones they love. Also included is Trine Dyrholm.

The movie's producers are Andy Evans and Sean Marley, with co-producers Christophe Mazodier from Polaris and Jean-Jacques Neira from Fontana. Alex Ashworth from Wales and Wirral-based Mad As Birds (Six Minutes to Midnight, POMS, The Vanishing) are also involved.
