Corinna Schumacher broke down recently while receiving a community award on her husband Michael Schumacher's behalf. The former Formula 1 racer has been recovering since he suffered a brain injury in 2013 and has not been seen in public ever since. Thus the ceremony was attended by the racer's wife and his daughter. Michael Schumacher is a seven-time world champion F1 driver.

In 2013, Schumacher was skiing in the French Alps when he suffered a tragic accident resulting in a near-fatal brain injury for which he has been receiving treatment ever since. Currently, the former Formula One racer is based in Switzerland along with his wife, undergoing treatment. Earlier in the month, it was reported that Corinna Schumacher sold his favourite customised private jet, Dassault Falcon 2000LX, for 29 million dollars.

Michael Schumacher was felicitated with the State Prize of North Rhine-Westphalia for his philanthropic work in Germany. The ceremony was attended by the racer's wife and daughter Gina-Maria, while his son could not attend the event due to ill health. Former Ferrari-chief and a close friend of Michael Schumacher, Jea Todt who accompanied the family at the ceremony, tweeted afterwards, "An emotional ceremony in Cologne to honour Michael Schumacher's outstanding career and charitable streak with Corinna, Gina, Mick Schumacher and Henrik Wust. I met Michael 30 years ago, with Ferrari, living his passion and bringing joy to millions of us."

After the audience honoured the former racer with a standing ovation, wife Corinna Schumacher broke down into tears. Speaking about Corinna's reaction to the honour bestowed on her husband's charitable work, Todt said, "That's just natural. No one planned it to be so emotional that tears were shed by Corinna, but sometimes it's good to not always control yourself."

Corinna Schumacher has been standing beside her husband ever since the tragic accident happened and has ensured privacy about his health over the years. Schumacher, who is an equestrian, is know to be a strong advocate of animal rights. Michael and Corrina Schumacher have two children. Their son Mick is also an F1 driver and their daughter, Gina-Maria Schumacher is also a professional horse rider like her mother.
